While in the church nursery this weekend, Harper got beat up. Well, that's an exaggeration. A little girl scratched her face and took her hair bow. I realize that kids her age have little to no concept of being gentle with each other. That's why it's up to us as the parents to make sure that their nails are cut so they can't do damage. Think of all of the bacteria that collects under a kid's fingernail. Now think of all of that bacteria being transmitted to another kid after being scratched. I cut Harper's nails about once every 10 days. But when I send her into situations with kids whose nails are sharpened to a point, I feel like I'm sending my declawed cat out into the world to fend for herself. The bottom line is that if your kid goes to daycare, spends time in the church nursery, or is ever around any other kids (I think that should include everyone), PLEASE cut their fingernails. It just makes sense.
