It's nights like tonight that convince me that Rob and I are just pretending to be adults. It started out innocent enough. We, along with my parents and several of their neighbors, attended a candlelight Christmas Eve service at a rather conservative Presbyterian church. Near the end of the service, the congregation sang the carol "What Child Is This?". When we got to the second verse, I started to crack a smile. Then I saw that Rob was also struggling to keep a straight face and I almost lost it. Yes. We are 12 years old.
1.What child is this who, laid to rest,
on Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
while shepherds watch are keeping?
Refrain:
This, this is Christ the King,
whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
haste, haste to bring him laud,
the babe, the son of Mary.
2.Why lies he in such mean estate
where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here
the silent Word is pleading.
Refrain

Ha ha ha, I feel ya. I couldn't sing that with a straight face either.
Ok. I don't get it.
Merry Christmas Junk DNA.
One time, a few years back, Jon had a girl on the worship team who was very, very conservative. She observed Jewish holidays, wore only long skirts and a headcovering, and did NOT like anything about Christmas.
Guess who Jon asked to sing that verse??
I watched him while she sang and although she sang it beautifully, I saw how hard it was for him to keep a straight face. Good thing he was focused so hard on keeping his eyes shut so he wouldn't laugh because if he would have opened his eyes and we made eye contact, it could have gotten ugly really fast.
Merry Christmas!
