The peonies on the side of our house are blooming. Legend has it that ants are needed to crawl through the buds and open the petals. This isn't actually true. Peonies will bloom with or without ants. But, I'll ignore that and give this one to the ants. Really, what else do they have going for them?

beautiful!
Those are beautiful!!! They added some sunshine to my rainy day! Thanks for posting!
Gorgeous! Peonies do seem to attract the ants though for some reason.
Apparently, there is a sweet waxy coating on the buds before they bloom that the ants like to eat. Some people have speculated that the ants eat the wax which then allows the flowers to bloom. But like I said, the buds will bloom with or with out the ants.
